Supported ACWA Power’s Digital Transformation for Energy and Water Operations Serving 16 Million Households

Acwa enterprise platform: the portfolio overview in English between the Arabic asset register and the safety view

Project Overview

Our client ACWA Power, now operating as Acwa, runs power and desalinated water plants in 16 countries. Each plant has its own equipment, teams and reports, and the data sat in separate places. Building one view of the whole portfolio meant collecting information by hand, so managers often made decisions from numbers that were already out of date.

ACWA Power wanted technology that fits the size of its operations and gives its teams current data to plan maintenance, investment and growth.

Our team supported ACWA Power’s digital transformation by developing enterprise software to bring information into a connected environment. The platform was designed to help teams monitor assets and review performance.

Business Challenges

Managing energy and water assets in multiple countries requires reliable systems for operational reporting and information sharing. The following areas shaped the technical requirements of the project.

  • Plants spread across 16 countries

Each site uses its own systems and reports. Leaders could not easily compare plants or see the portfolio as one.

  • Operations that cannot stop

Power and water supply run all day. Any app linked to operations had to stay available and handle large volumes of data.

  • Assets with many parts

A single plant holds thousands of connected assets, each with its own maintenance schedule and safety rules. Systems had to match how plants really work.

  • Different needs in different business lines

Operations, field maintenance, safety and sustainability teams each report different data in different ways.

  • Data in separate places

Operating and financial data sat in different systems. Building one report meant collecting files by hand.

  • Slow reporting for decisions

Managers decide where to maintain and expand. Late or inconsistent numbers made those decisions harder.

  • Existing systems that had to stay

The company already ran enterprise systems it relied on, so new software & apps had to connect to them and not replace them.

  • Many teams with different access needs

Plant staff and head office each need to see different data, and some of it is sensitive.

Our Solution

We developed the app & software platform with the main requirements: supporting utility-scale operations and improving access to operational data for decision-making.

We designed the platform to run all day and serve teams across plants and countries from the same system.

  • One platform for plant, regional and head office users
  • Designed for large and growing volumes of operating data
  • Clear status and error messages, so teams know when something needs attention
  • Backups and monitoring to keep the platform available

We organized the software around the way energy and water assets are managed, so it fits how plants and teams already work.

  • A structured list of plants, units and assets, grouped by country, plant and asset type
  • Views that cover power, desalination and renewable assets side by side
  • Maintenance and work status shown against each asset
  • Consistent names and codes, so the same asset means the same thing in every report

We connected operating information to the people who decide, so planning and investment choices rely on current data.

  • Dashboards for the whole portfolio, with filters by country, plant and asset type
  • Reports that managers can open without asking a team to build them
  • Alerts when a measure moves outside its expected range
  • Exports for teams that need data in their own tools

We arranged the platform so that each team sees the information that matters to its work.

  • Operations teams see plant status and performance
  • Field services teams see maintenance work against assets
  • Safety teams see HSSE records linked to the right site
  • Sustainability teams see data they can use for ESG reporting

ACWA Power kept the enterprise systems it already used. We connected the new software to them through secure APIs, so teams do not enter the same data twice.

  • Roles for plant users, regional managers, head office teams and administrators
  • Access limited by plant, region and role
  • Audit logs record user activity and timestamps for traceability
  • Data encrypted when stored and when sent

The app works in Arabic and English, with right-to-left layout for Arabic.

Development Process

  1. Requirement gathering

We held discovery sessions with ACWA Power’s teams to understand how plants and reports work, and listed the features the app needed.

  2. UI and UX design

We designed the screens in Arabic and English and shared clickable prototypes with the client for feedback.

  3. Development

Our app development company built the asset structure, dashboards and roles first.

  4. Integration

We connected the app to the client’s existing systems through APIs.

  5. Testing

We tested data accuracy, user roles, performance with large data volumes and security.

  6. Deployment and support

Our team deployed the platform and supported the client’s team after launch.
