ChatGPT: All You Should Know About The AI-Powered Chatbot

The prevalence of conversational AI applications has largely increased due to AI’s wide range of applications (no pun intended), right from customer service to language translation to virtual assistants.

One such platform that relies on the ability of AI models to understand and generate natural language is ChatGPT. This latest AI chatbot is disrupting many industries by generating human-like responses to user inputs.

OpenAI, an AI and research company, created ChatGPT, which was launched on November 30, 2022. ChatGPT utilizes Natural Language Processing to understand and respond to user queries conversationally. It can assist you with tasks like composing emails and writing code and essays.

How to Use ChatGPT

There’s much conjecture among working professionals about ChatGPT not fetching the results up to the standard they expect.

Though that’s true or not is a case to be considered at another time, here’s the chronology of steps you must follow to get the most potent results:

Step 1: Setting Up

Visit chat.openai.com to set up a free account with OpenAI and get started. You can log in easily with a Google or Microsoft account, or just enter your email address.

Next, you’ve to enter your phone number. But, keep in mind that you cannot use a virtual phone number to register for OpenAI.

You will then receive a confirmation number. Enter this on the registration page to complete the setup.

Step 2: Completing Registration

You’ll then see some housekeeping rules about ChatGPT–potential errors in data, how users can submit feedback, and how OpenAI collects data. Once you’re through that, you’ll have successfully registered.

Step 3: Getting Started

All you have to do is type in your text and get the information. Simple make sure that you’re creative in your search queries. See how your ChatGPT responds to various prompts.

If you still don’t get the intended result, tweak your prompt or give ChatGPT further instructions.

How was the solar system made

For example, putting in “explain how the solar system was made” will give a more detailed result than when you search “how was the solar system made” even though both inquiries give fairly detailed results.

You can go a step further by giving ChatGPT more guidance about style or tone: type “explain how the solar system was made as a middle school teacher.”

Explain how the solar system was made

You can also be more specific and request for an essay with a specific number of paragraphs: something like “write a four-paragraph essay explaining Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.”

Also, ChatGPT is great at tweaking previous answers. So you can always ask it to rewrite something or ask further questions.

But remember that the generator will fulfill the commands only if enough information is available. Further, you can use ChatGPT in dark mode or light mode.

Is ChatGPT free to use?

Yes, its basic version is completely free to use. Also, there’s no capping on how much you can use ChatGPT in a day. However, there is a word and character limit for responses.

OpenAI has recently announced a new paid, premium version called ChatGPT Plus. Though it’s not yet available, you can join the waitlist and get it at an eventual price of $20 per month.

ChatGPT Plus will provide access even during peak times, will give faster responses, and first access to new features like GPT-4.

Common Uses of ChatGPT

There are many use cases of ChatGPT. Here, we’ve compiled a list of its broad uses that more or less comprise all the smaller use cases.

  • Ability to Understand and Give Clear Answers

Instead of using search engines like Google or Bing, users can benefit from ChatGPT’s ability to comprehend and respond to many language inputs, and find straightforward answers to queries.

  • Provision of a Virtual Assistant

The tool can be utilized to create virtual assistants that can handle day-to-day tasks for businesses like scheduling appointments, sending emails, etc.

As you streamline the workflow and automate repetitive tasks, you can save so much time to focus on innovation and research within the company.

  • Ability to Learn and Deliver Better Results

This is perhaps the most human element of ChatGPT. It has the ability to learn from its interactions with users. As it talks with people, it can adapt and improve its responses to eventually become more accurate and natural over time.

  • Answers Questions Quickly

ChatGPT provides fast and intelligent responses to typical customer queries and thus, enhances customer experience. It’s configured to search the Internet for certain user queries and provide a quick summary of most relevant information.

Essentially, the AI chatbot helps businesses understand and efficiently address customer pain points.

  • Facilitates Student Learning

ChatGPT can explain words and phrases really well. One of the prominent ChatGPT use cases in the education field; tutors can teach the fundamentals of a topic and instruct students to use ChatGPT for clarifying their doubts.

ChatGPT Controversies

Controversies

Many new users are concerned about what this human-like generative AI could mean for the Internet’s future. Thousands of tech leaders and prominent public figures have even signed a petition to slow down the development.

Further, it’s even been banned in Italy due to privacy concerns.

Then, there’s the concern that ChatGPT may cause a loss of many jobs—as many as 300 million worldwide, as per Goldman Sachs.

Beyond that, multiple controversies have sprung up around people using ChatGPT to handle tasks that should ideally be handled by a real person. For example, Vanderbilt University’s Peabody School was recently under fire for generating an email about a mass shooting and the importance of community.

At the end of the email was a line: “Paraphrase from OpenAI’s ChatGPT AI language model, personal communication, February 15, 2023,” read a parenthetical in smaller font.

There was an outcry from students about the use of AI to write a letter about community during human tragedy. The following day, the associate dean of Peabody sent an apology note.

What’s the future of ChatGPT?

Future of ChatGPT

The world of tech has become obsessed with ChatGPT, and by the looks of it, it’s not slowing down anytime soon. Also, ChatGPT-4, the next iteration of the model, has officially launched, though currently it’s only available for ChatGPT Plus users.

What we’re yet to see is how ChatGPT will be integrated into other applications. Reportedly, Microsoft made a multibillion-dollar investment in ChatGPT, which is already starting to pay off.

The first integration was in Teams Premium, with specific OpenAI’s features showing up to automate tasks and provide transcripts. Then Microsoft revealed 365 Copilot that directly integrates ChatGPT natural language prompts into Office apps like Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and more.

So, if you think AI is a big deal now, imagine what will happen when it’s built into the most common applications used for school and work.

Final Note

An analysis by Swiss bank UBS reports that ChatGPT is the fastest-growing app of all time: the platform had 100 million active users in January, just two months after its launch.

It can’t be absolutely said whether the launch of ChatGPT is a feat in the field of technological advancement. But inexplicably, ChatGPT will make people’s lives easier by assisting them with everyday tedious tasks.

And just like you, we at Code Brew Labs are eager to see how far this disruptive technology will change the world as we know it, for better or for worse.
