At the recent Apple event, we witnessed the launch of Apple’s Wireless EarPods. Before anyone could get too excited about the innovation, reports and reviews started pouring in. All of them, collectively, shamed the Wireless EarPods, calling it an expensive entity and a device way ahead of its time. Well, they were not entirely wrong, given the fact that the earpods were indeed way ahead of their time. At a time when phones had found a common ground in the 3.5mm jack, the arrival of wireless EarPods was disturbing for many. Nevertheless, Apple has planned to go ahead with it, and it is safe to assume, that they are not going to do away with them anytime soon. So, love it or leave it, the Wireless EarPods are here to stay.
It cannot be that Apple did not predict this backlash in the first place. Surely, they knew they were asking people to invest in EarPods that were exclusive to their devices. For the ones who owned an Android, or some other device that wasn’t Apple, the cost went up, and so did the anger, and yet, Apple went ahead with it. This brings us to an interesting viewpoint. Was Apple secretly unleashing the future of Smartphone devices with the Wireless Earpods? The answer is yes, and they have unleashed the future where Smartphone devices won’t exist.
Confused? Well, let us make it simple for you. Apple has been quite vocal about its future plans with the Apple Watch, and its ability to perform the same functions as the iPhone. Now, with the integration of Wireless EarPods, they are looking at a future where the concept of Smartphone would become obsolete. Imagine wearing a Smartwatch that is synced with your Wireless Earpods. As we look a decade ahead, the screen is going to be amplified by the hologram technology, but that idea is still far fetched for now. However, the first step towards that horizon has been taken with the introduction of Wireless EarPods, and from now, Apple would only be raring to go.
What was Apple’s actual intention behind the introduction of Wireless EarPods is anyone’s guess. However, if they were looking to capture the market in the long run, the elimination of the Smartphone is a must. Today, Apple faces much flack for its expensive innovation, but tomorrow, it may be looked upon as the change that triggered the next revolution in the arena of peripheral devices.October 3, 2016
